SielpA Books

SielpA Books publishes language education materials grounded in educational theory, classroom practice, and practical support for learners, teachers, and researchers.

Founded by Adrian Leis in 2024 and incorporated in August 2025, SielpA Books works with authors and reviewers who bring experience as language learners, educators, and researchers. The publisher also commissions local artists for book covers, giving each title a visual identity connected to its content and focus.

Ryan Spring

Professor, Institute for Excellence in Higher Education, Tohoku University

Ryan Spring researches foreign language education and linguistics, with work spanning EFL pronunciation, automatic speech recognition, lexical richness, event conflation, multimedia learning, and project-based language learning. He holds a PhD and MA in Intercultural Language Communication from Tohoku University and a BA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

His publications and awards reflect a long-running focus on connecting language learning theory with tools teachers and students can actually use.

Kevin Crowley

Lecturer, Center for Language Education, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University

Kevin Crowley is an English teacher, business owner, and university lecturer in Japan. His interests include second language learning, cognitive linguistics, and cognitive semiotics, with published work on multiword expressions, language exchange classes, humor in the EFL classroom, schema theory, and second language learning strategies.

He is also the founder of PeraPera (pera-pera.org), a website dedicated to teacher and learner apps and tools for English as a Foreign Language (EFL).

Starter Level

Supports learners moving from CEFR A1 toward A2 with shorter pre-class readings and compact dictogloss tasks.

Middle Level

Helps learners transition from CEFR A2 toward B1 with longer readings and a wider range of dictogloss task lengths.

Across the series, the books include downloadable audio, classroom tasks, pronunciation and rhythm video tutorials, a speaking app, and teacher quizzes. The second editions are available through Mercari, the SielpA Books website, and university bookstores where the textbooks are used.
