Insert silence between sentences for shadowing-ready audio.

Upload a speech recording, choose how many seconds of silence you want after each sentence, and download a clean, repeatable version for language learning, listening drills, or coaching.

How to add pauses to speech audio online

Shadow Space keeps the workflow simple so you don’t have to open a full audio editor just to insert silence between sentences.

  1. Upload a clear speech recording (lesson, podcast segment, talk, or explanation).
  2. Choose Silence Detection or SRT Subtitle File as your detection mode.
  3. Adjust settings like Silence Threshold, Minimum Silence Duration, and Silence to Insert.
  4. Click process, watch the progress bar, then download your new shadowing-ready audio file.

Example settings for language learning

  • Silence Threshold: around −35 to −40 dB for clean studio audio.
  • Minimum Silence Duration: about 300–500 ms for quick speakers.
  • Silence to Insert: 2–3 seconds for shadowing and repetition.

FAQ

All answers stay on this page — just scroll down. The links in the header jump you to each section.

Is Shadow Space free?

Yes. The free tier is tuned for short practice files used in lessons and self-study. In the future, a Pro plan will unlock longer recordings and heavier use for schools and creators.

What kinds of audio work best?

Clear speech where one person is talking at a time works best: lectures, explanations, dialogues, and coaching calls. Noisy audio or overlapping speakers may still work but might need more threshold tuning.

Can I use the processed files in my classes or products?

Yes, as long as you have rights to the original audio. The goal is to help you create better listening and shadowing materials for students and clients.

Does Shadow Space store my files?

The app is designed to process audio in a privacy-conscious way. Files are used only for generating your processed output and are not meant to be kept for long-term storage.
